EU Regulation 2026/196 & Ethylene-Oxide Compliance
Commission Regulation (EU) 2026/196 (published 29 January 2026) amends Regulations (EC) No 1333/2008 and (EU) No 231/2012, tightening the purity, heavy-metal and microbiological specifications for guar gum (E412) and related hydrocolloids. B D Guar’s HICOL® guar gum is manufactured to meet these updated specifications and is aligned with the standing EU limit of quantification of 0.1 mg/kg for ethylene oxide (expressed as the sum of ETO and 2-chloroethanol calculated as ETO). Steam / heat-based conditioning is used throughout — no ethylene-oxide treatment — and every shipment ships with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis.
